Our activity sessions run Monday to Friday 9.30am - 3.30pm
Our sport sessions aim to get students more active. Activities include indoor curling, soft basketball, football, boxercise and other competitive games.
Our students suggest the subjects in these sessions. In the past these have been history, geography, astronomy, wildlife and bird watching, current affairs and story writing. Luckily our qualified staff have lots of hobbies to cover these subjects.
We have two mini buses and these are used nearly every day for trips out to places of interest. Students can reserve a place on any of the visits. We also have organised visits from outside companies who come to Pennine. Some of these have included Falconry Displays and Juicing bikes. We have walking groups in the summer that include Travel Training. We also organise Outreach events.
Our qualified staff support a group of students to use the Gym. It is next door to Pennine at the Three Ways Centre. Students are shown how to use the equipment to exercise safely and effectively to improve their health.
In these sessions students use the computers for personal use. This might be listening to their favourite music or watching a video with headphones on, creating a birthday or Christmas card, or playing games that help with memory, literacy and numeracy.
A fun fitness class using boxing gloves and pads. It is run by qualified instructors.
We do an exercise class for students who prefer a slower paced class. The exercises can be done sat down or by using the chair for support. This is run by qualified instructors.
The students Voice requested a Pennine Magpie Radio Station. With the help of some local radio stations we have borrowed and bought enough equipment to have our own sound studio. The students named this Magpie Air. The studio has audio recording and sound editing. Students learn how to present a radio show, interview people, create a music playlist and read the news and weather. The radio shows are uploaded to the website for everyone to listen to. These sessions improve the communication skills of our students.
These sessions are very popular. They include creative drawing, painting, clay modelling, making props, pottery, knitting and making costumes for the shows. Students are also encouraged to work on their own craft projects.
